Large search underway in Myrtle Beach for missing 69-year-old man

MYRTLE BEACH, SC – Police, firefighters, and state rescue teams are searching the area around 8400 Costa Verde Drive near the Marriott Resort for 69-year-old Thomas Mason, who has been missing since Saturday afternoon.

Authorities said Mason was last seen wearing an orange Clemson T-shirt and dark blue sweatpants.

An increased law enforcement presence will remain in the area as crews continue to search by land and air.

Multi-agency search effort intensifies along the coast

The Myrtle Beach Police Department confirmed Monday that officers, firefighters, and members of the South Carolina Urban Search and Rescue Team are working together to locate Mason. Crews have been focusing on wooded and residential areas near the beach resort corridor, as well as nearby walking trails and parking lots.

Investigators are urging anyone with home surveillance footage or other information that may help locate Mason to contact the Myrtle Beach Police Department’s non-emergency line. Police have also asked residents to check their properties and outdoor structures.

Search operations continue through the evening

Officials have not released additional details about where Mason was last seen or whether foul play is suspected. The search effort is expected to continue into the night, with teams coordinating from a command post near Costa Verde Drive.
