$1 million-winning scratch-off ticket sold at Rutter’s in York County
HANOVER, PA – A Pennsylvania Lottery player is now a millionaire after purchasing a winning Merry Money Match Scratch-Off ticket worth $1 million at a convenience store in York County, officials announced Thursday.
The lucky ticket was sold at Rutter’s located at 661 Broadway in Hanover Borough. As the retailer that sold the top-prize winner, Rutter’s will receive a $5,000 bonus.
Merry Money Match is a $30 holiday-themed scratch-off game offering several prizes, including a top prize of $1 million. According to the Pennsylvania Lottery, tickets are distributed randomly, and the location of winners is only known once the prize is claimed.
The identity of the winner has not yet been released. Lottery officials urge winners to sign the back of their ticket immediately and contact the Lottery to initiate the claims process. Scratch-Off prizes must be claimed within one year of the game’s official end-sale date, which is listed at palottery.com.
All winnings over $5,000 are subject to federal and state tax withholding.
The Lottery also reminded players that Scratch-Offs, while popular during the holiday season, are not appropriate gifts for children, as part of its participation in the National Council on Problem Gambling’s Gift Responsibly Campaign.
