Lucky number from store receipt lands $50K for Maryland pair

Man holding dollar bills roll, corruption payment, dirty money, financial fraud

BALTIMORE, MD — A mother and daughter from Brooklyn Park, calling themselves the “Lucky Ladies,” scored a $50,000 top prize in the Maryland Lottery’s Pick 5 game after playing a number combination for the first time.

The winning ticket, purchased July 7 at denton liquors in Caroline County, matched all five numbers in a straight $1 bet for the midday drawing. The winning numbers were 5-3-8-4-7 — a combination the mother said she chose on a whim from a store receipt.

The pair discovered their win three days later and claimed the prize at Maryland Lottery headquarters on July 18. Denton liquors will receive a $500 bonus for selling the ticket.

As of claiming the prize, the mother had not yet decided how she plans to spend the winnings.
