Cumberland man arrested in W. Oldtown Road assault after fleeing scene

CUMBERLAND, MD – A 19-year-old man is facing assault charges after allegedly attacking a woman during a verbal dispute at a residence on W. Oldtown Road early Sunday, then fleeing the scene before police arrived.

Braylin Nasir Rhodes of Cumberland was arrested later that day on an active warrant issued by the Allegany County District Court. Officers had responded to the home for a reported assault and spoke with a female victim who said Rhodes assaulted her during an argument, resulting in minor injuries.

By the time officers arrived, Rhodes had already fled the residence. Police were unable to locate him at the time, prompting investigators to submit an application for charges, which led to the issuance of an arrest warrant.

Rhodes was taken into custody and brought before a District Court Commissioner for an initial appearance. He was released on a $2,500 unsecured bond.

No further details have been released regarding the nature of the injuries or the relationship between Rhodes and the victim.
