Man arrested after pointing gun at neighbor and dog in DC

Gun and machete scare ends with arrest of Southeast neighbor

WASHINGTON, DC – A Southeast neighbor was arrested Thursday after police say he pointed a BB gun at a woman and her dog, retrieved a machete during the confrontation, and was later found in possession of a shotgun during the arrest.

Police records show officers were called to the 3400 block of 23rd Street Southeast at approximately 7:55 a.m. on Friday the 10th after the victim reported being threatened with a firearm and a bladed weapon. Responding officers recovered the BB gun at the scene and took the suspect into custody without further incident. Once detained, officers located a machete and a twelve gauge shotgun in the suspect’s possession.

The arrested man, identified as 74-year-old Robert Hammond of Southeast DC, was charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, Possession of a Prohibited Weapon, Threats to Kidnap or Injure, and Possession of an Unregistered Firearm. The investigation remains active and additional charges or details may follow as detectives continue their work.
