Belmont, NH- A New Hampshire man is facing charges for allegedly holding his parents captive and physically assaulting them for hours. Nathaniel Kay, 42, is charged with multiple counts of kidnapping, criminal restraint, and assault following incidents that unfolded at their home.
Kay was taken into custody on October 15 after a 911 call from one of the victims claimed two people had fallen down the stairs. Firefighters arrived at the scene in the early morning hours, prompting law enforcement to investigate further.
Victims in the case include Kay’s 82-year-old father and 77-year-old mother, who reported being subjected to violence for approximately 12 hours prior to the call. The abuse allegedly involved physical attacks, restraint with a clothesline, and being dragged into a garage where the attacks continued.
At the time of the 911 call, one victim expressed concern for the other’s condition. The call was made under the pretext of a fall down the stairs, as police later observed visible injuries and signs of violence in the home.
Officers noted bloodstains throughout the house, and one victim reported being strangled with a rope. Belmont Police Chief Stephen Akerstom remarked on the unusual nature of the case, highlighting the prolonged duration of the assaults.
Both victims were taken to the hospital for treatment, with the mother suffering from a brain bleed and the father dealing with a broken nose and ribs. Kay is currently being held in preventive detention and waived his probable cause hearing earlier this week.
No court date has been established yet as the case progresses to Belknap County Superior Court.
