Man charged in fatal Bayonne stabbing after late-night dispute

BAYONNE, NJ – A 41-year-old man from Garfield was fatally stabbed Monday night during a domestic dispute inside a Bayonne residence, prompting a homicide investigation.

Police were called to 17 Meadow Street shortly before 10:20 p.m., where they found the victim suffering from an apparent stab wound.

Authorities identified the victim as Richard Arcos, who was pronounced dead at 11:15 p.m. at a nearby hospital.

Suspect taken into custody at the scene

According to Acting Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello, investigators from the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and Bayonne Police Department took 28-year-old Andrew Fuentes of Bayonne into custody at the scene. He faces multiple charges including aggravated manslaughter, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon.

Fuentes remains in custody pending his first court appearance. Officials said the incident stemmed from a domestic altercation, though no further details about the relationship between the suspect and victim have been released.

Investigation continues under prosecutor’s office

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office said the cause and manner of death will be determined by the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office. Detectives continued to gather evidence at the scene Tuesday morning, interviewing witnesses and reviewing security footage from the surrounding area.
