UTICA, N.Y. – A man is dead following a shooting inside a Steuben Street home Thursday afternoon, prompting an ongoing homicide investigation by the Utica Police Department.
Authorities said officers and fire personnel responded to 1016 Steuben Street around 12:25 p.m. after receiving reports of a man with a gunshot wound. Upon arrival, responders found the victim in the entryway of the residence suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. He was rushed to Wynn Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Police said a preliminary investigation indicates an argument broke out between two people inside the residence, during which a handgun was fired and the victim was struck. Detectives are reviewing physical, forensic, and biological evidence to determine the exact circumstances of the shooting.
The identity of the victim has not yet been released, pending notification of family.
Utica police said updates will be provided as the investigation develops and extended condolences to the victim’s loved ones.
