Cumberland man arrested after street disturbance turns violent on Pershing Street
CUMBERLAND, MD – A street disturbance in downtown Cumberland escalated into a physical confrontation Sunday evening, ending with a 28-year-old man facing multiple charges after allegedly assaulting someone and resisting arrest in front of a crowd.
Just before nightfall, officers responded to a call for a disturbance on Pershing Street and arrived to find a large crowd gathering around an altercation. Among the crowd was Bryce Steven Patton, who police say was the source of the disruption. According to the report, Patton refused to follow officers’ commands and was seen committing an assault while police were on scene.
When officers attempted to take Patton into custody, he allegedly pushed one of them and resisted arrest. After a brief struggle, Patton was subdued and transported to Central Booking for processing.
Patton, a Cumberland resident, has been charged with two counts of second-degree assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, public intoxication, and failure to obey a lawful order. He was later brought before a District Court Commissioner and released on a $2,500 unsecured personal bond.
The incident remains under review, and no injuries were reported by police.
