ALEXANDRIA, Va. – Police are investigating the death of a man who was found deceased following an early morning barricade incident at an Alexandria apartment complex, officials said Thursday.
According to the Alexandria Police Department, officers responded around 12:49 a.m. to an apartment building on Thornton Way after receiving a report of a man in crisis who was threatening self-harm. Officers established a perimeter and attempted to communicate with the man.
Crisis Negotiations and Special Operations Teams were activated as efforts continued to make contact, but negotiation attempts were unsuccessful. When officers entered the apartment, they found the man dead from what appeared to be a gunshot wound.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the exact cause and manner of death. Police said the investigation remains ongoing, and additional information will be released when available.
