Man Indicted in March Attack

January 1, 2016

Multiple media outlets are reporting the indictment of a Brick Township man arrested in March, covered in blood and suspected of attempted murder.

Christopher Dalzell was indicted by an Ocean County grand jury related to an assault earlier this year when a 50-year-old woman was found stabbed six times in her home. The woman, an acquaintance of Dalzell, survived.

Police were called to the home on Sunday, Mar. 29 after receiving a 911 call, presumably from the victim herself. Shortly after police arrived, Dalzell was discovered in another room of the house, covered in blood.

Prosecutors had initially charged Dalzell at the time, with the new indictment including weapons charges related to a knife he had when discovered.

A re-indictment of a defendant is not uncommon, and according to defense attorney Bart Crayton, a prosecutor can “re-indict a charge as long as it is within the statute of limitations for that offense”.
