HAMPTON, VA – A Virginia Beach man was killed early Monday after his disabled vehicle was struck by a speeding SUV inside the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel, according to Virginia State Police.
Investigators said the crash happened around 2:38 a.m. when a gray Nissan Altima blew a tire and became disabled in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 64. The car was then hit by a red Acura MDX traveling at a high rate of speed.
The driver of the Altima, identified as 39-year-old Thomas Wiley of Virginia Beach, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Acura, 36-year-old Torro J. Huggins of Newport News, was transported to a nearby hospital with injuries.
State Police said the investigation remains ongoing, and charges are pending consultation with the Hampton Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office.
