YORK COUNTY, Va. – Evening traffic along Interstate 64 turned deadly Wednesday when a 54-year-old Gloucester man was shot and killed while traveling eastbound between the 242- and 243-mile markers, according to Virginia State Police.

The gunfire erupted at about 5:57 p.m., halting commuters near the Humelsine Parkway-Marquis Center Parkway and Busch Gardens exits. Investigators said they are urgently seeking the public’s help in identifying a Honda CR-V seen in the area at the time of the shooting.

State police said they are asking anyone who witnessed unusual activity on or off the interstate before, during or after the incident to come forward. That includes drivers in both directions of I-64 as well as people nearby who may have heard gunshots.
