Man seriously injured in Southeast D.C. apartment fire late Tuesday night
Washington, DC – A man was hospitalized in serious condition Tuesday night after being rescued from an apartment fire in Southeast D.C., according to fire officials.
Just after 10:30 p.m., firefighters responded to a reported box alarm in the 1600 block of Independence Avenue SE. Upon arrival, crews entered the unit and located an adult male inside. He was rescued from the burning apartment and transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.
Medics also evaluated a second person on the scene, though no additional transports were reported.
The fire was contained to the kitchen area of the unit, and firefighters were able to prevent further spread through the building. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and the name of the injured man has not been released.
