Man shot after argument outside bar near 53rd and Market Streets

PHILADELPHIA, PA – A 36-year-old man was shot multiple times Friday night following an argument outside a bar near 53rd and Market Streets, police said.

Officers from the 18th District responded around 9:10 p.m. and found the victim on the 5300 block of Market Street suffering from several gunshot wounds to his left arm.

He was transported by police to Penn-Presbyterian Hospital, where he was treated and later listed in stable condition.

Dispute preceded gunfire

According to investigators, the victim had recently left a nearby bar when he became involved in a verbal dispute with another man that escalated into gunfire.

The suspect fled the scene immediately after the shooting. Police described him as a Black male, approximately 5’8” to 5’10” tall, between 35 and 45 years old, with short dreadlocks. He was last seen wearing a long brown coat and blue jeans, running south on 53rd Street and then west on Ludlow Street.

Investigation underway

Detectives from the Shooting Investigation Group are reviewing surveillance footage from the area and interviewing potential witnesses. No arrests have been made, and police have not recovered a firearm.
