Night turns deadly as DC man gunned down in the street

Washington, DC – A man was gunned down late Sunday night in Southeast DC, prompting a homicide investigation after officers found him fatally wounded on a residential block.

The shooting occurred at approximately 10:18 p.m. in the 3800 block of 9th Street, Southeast. When Seventh District officers responded to a report of gunfire, they discovered an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and EMS arrived shortly after, but the victim showed no signs of life and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The deceased has been identified as 30-year-old Simon Getachew, a resident of Northwest DC.

Investigators have not released any information about a suspect or motive. Detectives continue to gather evidence and interview potential witnesses as the search for answers unfolds. No arrests had been made as of Tuesday.

The Metropolitan Police Department is offering a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this homicide.
