MANCHESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ – Choosing the right costume can make a difference not just in selfies but in safety as well. “Plan costumes that are bright and reflective,” the department advised.

Additionally, it is crucial to ensure that costumes are free from tripping hazards and do not obstruct vision. Properly fitted shoes are a must, and costumes should not make contact with an open flame.

But safety doesn’t stop at costumes; planning and vigilance are essential. Children under 12 should be accompanied by adults, and families are encouraged to plan their Trick or Treat routes in advance. Carrying a flashlight is recommended, along with walking in groups and sticking to well-lit areas.

“Only Trick or Treat in well-known neighborhoods and at homes that have a porch light,” adds the Manchester Township Police.

The police also advise against accepting unwrapped food items or open beverages. Once the night’s haul of treats is complete, adults should inspect all goodies before consumption. If any signs of suspicious or illegal activity are noted, the police urge immediate notification to law enforcement.
