Marion County Man Charged for Possession of Indecent Child Pictures

MARION COUNTY, FL – On Thursday, May 6, 2021, Major Crimes Detective Nicholas Sutliff arrested 66-year-old Rex Bevans on 20 counts of Possession of Child Pornography.Detective Sutliff received a Cyber Tip from the Nation Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which indicated Bevans had uploaded child [censored]ography to social media. Detective Sutliff’s investigation revealed that Bevans’ had uploaded the file from his home in Dunnellon.

Detective Sutliff, Detective Castellano, and Digital Forensics Technician Newbanks made contact with Bevans to interview him about the uploaded file. Bevans gave consent for a search of his desktop computer, on which 20 files of child [censored]ography were located.

Detective Sutliff placed Bevans under arrest and he began admitting that he has an addiction to child [censored]ography. Bevans stated he has viewed the material for 10 years and most recently downloaded more files a few days prior.

Bevans was booked into the Marion County Jail, where he is held on a $100,000 bond.
