Maruca’s Tomato Pies on the Boardwalk in Seaside Heights was crowned best pizza in New Jersey in the annual Pizzabowl hosted by the Jersey Pizza Joints group. After six hours and fifteen minutes of judging pizza from 16 finalists over five founds, the 2022 Pizzabowl II trophy went to Marucas. They were also inducted into the JPJ’s New Jersey Pizza Hall of Fame. In MeatBowl I, Pizza Amore of Carlstadt won the “best balls” trophy. Pizza Bowl featured sixteen pizza makers, four from each region of New Jersey, and was a grueling round robing competition that took place at Redd’s Biergarten in Carlstadt.
Zoni’s Brooklyn Brick Coal Oven Pizzeria of Middletown finished in second place at the shore. Angelino’s Restaurant and Pizzeria won the north division.
