A Maryland man was arrested on a murder charge in the killing of a 26-year-old victim after a grand jury indictment.
WASHINGTON, D.C. — More than two years after a shooting outside a business in Northeast DC left one man dead and two others critically injured, a Maryland man has been arrested and charged with murder, police announced Friday.
The fatal shooting occurred on Feb. 14, 2024, at about 9:40 p.m. in the 1700 block of North Capitol Street, Northeast. Responding officers found two men suffering from gunshot wounds, one inside a business and the other outside.
DC Fire and EMS transported both victims to a local hospital. One of the men died despite lifesaving efforts, while the second victim was treated for critical injuries.
A short time later, a third man arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot wound and was also treated for critical injuries.
The victim who died was identified as 26-year-old Malon Nurse, of Upper Marlboro, Maryland.
On Friday, June 26, 2026, 23-year-old Charlie Laster, of Capitol Heights, Maryland, was arrested pursuant to a D.C. Superior Court indictment. He has been charged with first-degree murder while armed.
The Metropolitan Police Department said the U.S. Marshals Service assisted with the investigation and arrest.
The investigation remains ongoing.
