A Virginia arrest and extradition ended a months-long homicide investigation into the death of an infant in Northeast DC.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The mother of an 11-month-old boy has been extradited to the District and charged with murder after investigators determined the child’s death was a homicide caused by blunt force trauma, the Metropolitan Police Department announced Friday.

The investigation began on Aug. 2, 2025, when officers responded at about 1:37 p.m. to the 1500 block of F Street, Northeast, for a report of an unconscious child. Officers found an unresponsive infant at the scene.

DC Fire and EMS transported the child to a local hospital. Despite continued lifesaving efforts, the infant died on Aug. 10, 2025.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined the child’s cause of death was blunt force trauma and ruled the manner of death a homicide.

The victim was identified as 11-month-old Jacari Mills, of Northeast DC.

According to police, 32-year-old Aniqua Kristinia Mills, of Newport News, Virginia, was arrested on June 11, 2026, by members of the Capitol Area Regional Fugitive Task Force pursuant to a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant.

On June 26, 2026, she was extradited to the District of Columbia and charged with first-degree murder under the felony murder rule and first-degree cruelty to children.

The case remains under investigation.
