Maryland man wins $1.9 million jackpot with $10 gas station ticket

Bowie man hits $1.9 million Multi-Match jackpot after switching from Powerball and Mega Millions

Bowie, MD – A Prince George’s County man is now a millionaire after a change in lottery strategy paid off with a $1.9 million Multi-Match jackpot, thanks to a lucky $10 quick pick purchase at a Lanham gas station.

The winning ticket, which matched all six numbers in the September 18 Multi-Match drawing, was finally claimed on Tuesday — more than a month later — at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. The winner, a regular player of national games like Mega Millions and Powerball, had decided to focus on the in-state Multi-Match game just two days before the draw.

On September 16, he spent $10 on five $2 Multi-Match tickets at Forbes BP, located at 9701 Annapolis Road in Lanham. Each ticket provided him with three sets of six numbers, all of which were generated using the quick pick feature. On the first line of his second set, he matched all six winning numbers to secure the $1.9 million jackpot.

The odds of winning the Multi-Match jackpot stand at roughly 1 in 2 million per ticket — far better than the odds for Mega Millions or Powerball. The retailer that sold the winning ticket will receive a $1,900 bonus.

The Bowie resident claimed the prize on October 28 and said he and his wife have no immediate spending plans, choosing instead to deposit the funds and let it earn interest.

This win continues a streak of high-value state-only lottery payouts across Maryland in recent months. Multi-Match remains one of the few jackpot games exclusive to Maryland residents.
