Powerball jackpot climbs to $1.5B as two Maryland tickets hit for $50K
BALTIMORE, MD — Two lucky Powerball players in Maryland matched five numbers in Wednesday night’s drawing, each winning $50,000 as the jackpot surged to an estimated $1.5 billion for Saturday’s draw.
The winning tickets were sold at Love’s Travel Stop at 18434 Showalter Road in Hagerstown and Speedy Mart at 1697 North Forest Park Drive in Gwynn Oak. Both tickets matched four of the five white balls and the red Powerball drawn on December 17.
The winning numbers were 25, 33, 53, 62, 66, and Powerball 17.
With no one hitting all six numbers, the jackpot has now climbed to an annuity value of $1.5 billion, with a one-time cash payout option of $686.5 million. If claimed by a Maryland resident, the State would receive an estimated $65.2 million in revenue.
Maryland Lottery officials said more than 22 players in the state have won prizes of $50,000 or more since the September 6 drawing, when the jackpot was last hit. That winning ticket was split between players in Texas and Missouri, with an annuity value of $1.787 billion.
Multiple major prizes remain unclaimed in Maryland, including:
- A $1 million ticket sold Sept. 13 at Chesapeake Liquors in Clinton
- A $150,000 Power Play ticket from the Dec. 10 drawing sold at the Jameson-Harrison American Legion Post 238 in Hughesville
- Several $50,000 winners from October, November, and December sold at retailers in Morningside, White Plains, Silver Spring, Baltimore, Bel Air, Frederick, and Bowie
Since September 6, Powerball ticket sales in Maryland have generated $44.9 million, including an estimated $11.2 million to the State and $8.6 million in prizes.
The last time a Maryland resident won the Powerball jackpot was on January 20, 2021. That ticket, worth $731.1 million, was purchased in Lonaconing and claimed anonymously.
