Matawan mayor to host senior property tax relief event Friday

MATAWAN, N.J. – Seniors seeking help with their property tax relief applications will have the chance to meet face-to-face with state representatives and local officials this Friday at a special mobile office day.

Mayor Jennifer Kuhn announced the event as part of an ongoing effort to connect Matawan’s older residents with valuable tax reimbursement and relief programs.

The session will take place at the Cheesequake Village Community Center, located at 33 Galewood Drive, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event, organized in partnership with Senator Owen Henry and Assemblymen Rob Clifton and Alex Sauickie of New Jersey’s 12th Legislative District, aims to help seniors navigate programs like Senior Freeze, Anchor, and Stay NJ.

Helping seniors stay in their homes

The Senior Freeze program reimburses eligible residents for property tax increases on their primary homes, while the Anchor and Stay NJ initiatives offer broader relief to homeowners aged 65 and older.

Representatives from the legislative district office will be available to assist attendees with completing forms, verifying eligibility, and checking application statuses.

Who qualifies and how to prepare

To qualify for Stay NJ, participants must be at least 65 years old in 2024, have an annual income below $500,000, and have owned and lived in their home for the entire year. Seniors are encouraged to bring documentation of income, proof of residency, and property tax records.

Additional information about the programs and event details can be found by calling (732) 546-7341 or emailing Aesposito@njleg.org.

For Matawan’s seniors, Friday’s event could mean a much-needed break from rising property taxes.
