Fatal house fire under investigation in Mechanicsville as crews locate victim inside

MECHANICSVILLE, MD – A fatal house fire tore through a home on Walnut Circle early Friday morning, forcing firefighters to battle heavy flames from outside before investigators confirmed a person was found inside the residence.

Emergency crews responded at approximately 6:40 a.m. to 39580 Walnut Circle in Mechanicsville for a reported house fire with possible entrapment, according to the Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal.

Firefighters arriving on scene reported heavy fire on the second floor that was rapidly spreading throughout the home. Due to safety concerns, including extensive hoarding conditions inside the structure, crews conducted exterior firefighting operations.

Deputy State Fire Marshals and K9 Taylor responded to the scene and launched an investigation. Authorities confirmed that a person was located inside the home. The identity of the victim has not yet been released.

Officials said the operation is expected to be extended, with investigators using heavy machinery to assist with debris removal as they work to determine the origin and cause of the fire.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
