Teen suspect sought after attempted carjacking leads to shooting in Southeast DC
WASHINGTON, DC — A late-night attempted carjacking turned violent in Southeast DC early Friday when a man was shot just after midnight in the 2200 block of Shannon Place SE, prompting a police investigation and an active search for the suspect.
Officers from the Metropolitan Police Department’s 7th District responded around 12 a.m. to reports of a shooting and located a man suffering from a gunshot wound. Investigators said the victim was shot during an attempted carjacking. Details on the victim’s condition have not yet been released.
Police issued a lookout for the suspect, described as a teenage Black male with a slim build, last seen wearing all black. The suspect fled the area on foot, and no arrests have been made as of Friday morning.
Officers spent the early morning hours canvassing the area, interviewing witnesses, and collecting evidence as they worked to piece together the events leading up to the shooting.
