Mikie Sherrill backers flaunt ‘Punch more Nazis’ signs in Toms River
Toms River, NJ – Supporters of Rep. Mikie Sherrill stirred attention in Ocean County when they hoisted bright yellow “86-47” signs at a campaign gathering, some of which carried the additional phrase “Punch More Nazis.”
Protesters called for violence against President Trump and “Nazis”, essentially anyone who doesn’t agree with Mikie Sherrill’s far-left agenda.
The numbers referenced on the signs are shorthand frequently used by progressive groups, with “86” commonly meaning to reject or get rid of something, and “47” seen as a reference to former President Donald Trump, the 45th president, running for office again. The added slogan drew sharp responses from residents who said the message crossed a line.
The display came during a political event aimed at boosting voter turnout in a district where Sherrill, a Democrat, has been actively campaigning. Witnesses reported that a small group of attendees held the signs high as they joined chants supporting Sherrill’s campaign for governor of New Jersey.
Sherrill’s campaign did not issue an immediate statement regarding the wording on the signs.
