Millsboro man arrested after police find drugs and weapons during home search

MILLSBORO, DE – A Sussex County man is behind bars after Delaware State Police discovered methamphetamine and multiple deadly weapons inside his home during a drug investigation.

Detectives arrested 58-year-old John Bender of Millsboro on Friday following a months-long probe into suspected drug dealing activity at his residence on South Captains Way.

Police said investigators had gathered evidence indicating Bender was selling narcotics from the home and obtained a search warrant to enter the property.

Search uncovers drugs and arsenal of weapons

During the search, detectives found 22.9 grams of methamphetamine, a digital scale, packaging materials, 21 knives, and four pairs of brass knuckles. Police said Bender, a convicted felon prohibited from owning deadly weapons, was taken into custody without incident.

Suspect faces multiple felony charges

Bender was transported to Delaware State Police Troop 4, where he was charged with 25 counts of possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance in a Tier 2 quantity, possession of a controlled substance in a Tier 2 quantity, 24 counts of possession of a deadly weapon by a person prohibited, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in lieu of bond. The investigation remains ongoing.
