Morning commute sees scattered delays across New Jersey highways

TRENTON, NJ – Drivers faced a busy Thursday morning commute across New Jersey with several crashes and pockets of congestion reported on major highways, though most lanes remained open.

As of 7:48 a.m., a crash on I-295 northbound just north of Exit 65 (CR 649/Sloan Avenue) in Hamilton Township closed the right lane and shoulder, slowing traffic through the area. Another crash was reported on the Garden State Parkway northbound near Exit 100A (NJ 33 East) in Tinton Falls, though all lanes remained open following the incident.

By 8:10 a.m., several key corridors were experiencing rush-hour backups. Northbound delays on the Garden State Parkway stretched about four miles between Exit 149 (CR 506, Bloomfield) and Exit 153A (NJ 3, Clifton). Southbound traffic on the Parkway also saw a two-mile slowdown from Cranford Township to Clark near Exits 136 and 135.

The New Jersey Turnpike Western Spur had a two-mile delay northbound from the Southern Mixing Bowl to just south of Interchange 15W (I-280) in Newark due to heavy volume, while the Turnpike’s northbound express lanes backed up three miles from Teaneck to the George Washington Bridge.

In North Jersey, Route 4 drivers encountered congestion in both directions — westbound through Hackensack into Paramus and eastbound from River Edge into Teaneck. On I-80, moderate delays were reported in both directions through Paterson, while eastbound Route 46 traffic was slow between Wayne and Little Falls.

At the Hudson crossings, Holland Tunnel travel times to Manhattan averaged 20 minutes from both the Turnpike Exit 14C and Route 139 at Tonnelle Circle.
