Duncan, OK – A woman was shot in a tragic incident on Christmas while sitting on her front porch. Cody Wayne Adams, 33, has been charged with first-degree manslaughter in connection with the shooting.
Police report that the woman was on County Road 1800 when she was struck by a bullet fired by Adams, who was testing a new firearm.
Witnesses indicate she was with family and holding a baby when the shooting occurred around 3:15 PM.
Family members heard gunshots in the area prior to the incident, with the victim reportedly commenting about the new gun before collapsing after being shot in the upper arm and chest.
Deputies and first responders arrived shortly and pronounced her dead at the scene.
Neighbors later informed police that they had seen Adams practicing with a Glock 45 in his backyard.
He admitted to shooting at a target and acknowledged the woman had died from a gunshot wound nearby.
Authorities learned from witnesses that Adams was firing approximately twenty rounds that day, targeting a Red Bull can.
During questioning, Adams appeared emotional and confessed he was shooting toward the ground without understanding the risk.
He appeared in court on Friday and was assigned a bond set at $100,000.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for February 26, 2026.
