New Jersey Attorney General Calls for Investigation Into Minneapolis Shooting

TRENTON, NJ – New Jersey Attorney General Matt Platkin sharply criticized federal immigration authorities Wednesday after a fatal shooting in Minneapolis involving an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer, calling the incident “absolutely horrifying” and demanding a full investigation.

In a statement posted on social media, Platkin condemned the agency’s tactics following reports that an ICE officer shot and killed a driver during an enforcement operation earlier in the day.

“ICE’s violence and intimidation tactics are outrageous and unacceptable, and they must stop now,” Platkin wrote. “There must be an immediate and full investigation.”

The Minneapolis shooting, which officials said occurred after a confrontation between ICE officers and a woman allegedly attempting to flee in a vehicle, has sparked national outrage and renewed debate over federal immigration enforcement practices. Federal and state investigators in Minnesota have opened inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Platkin, who has been a vocal critic of aggressive immigration enforcement measures, reiterated New Jersey’s stance separating state and local law enforcement from federal civil immigration operations under the state’s “Immigrant Trust Directive.”
