MILLVILLE, NJ — A 55-year-old man and a 17-year-old juvenile have been charged with homicide and weapons offenses following the death of Louis “Gus” Serbeck after a violent altercation at a Millville residence, authorities announced.
On April 21, 2025, criminal complaints were authorized against Eric D. Hannah and the juvenile, identified as J.H., both residents of Leamings Mill Road. J.H. was separately charged with aggravated assault for an earlier attack on Serbeck’s daughter, which allegedly sparked the fatal confrontation.

Deadly fight followed earlier assault
According to investigators, on April 19, J.H. allegedly assaulted Serbeck’s daughter at the Leamings Mill residence. The following day, Serbeck and his daughter returned to the home to confront Hannah about the attack.
Authorities say J.H. met Serbeck at the front door, and a physical altercation ensued. During the fight, J.H. allegedly struck Serbeck multiple times in the head with a metal baseball bat, while Hannah reportedly hit Serbeck in the back of the head with a metal flashlight.
Serbeck’s daughter was also struck in the head by J.H. during the melee.
Victim died en route to hospital
Vineland Police Department officers and EMS responded to the scene shortly after the assault. Serbeck was initially transported to Vineland Inspira Hospital to be flown to Cooper University Hospital but died while en route.
Hannah is currently lodged in Cumberland County Jail. J.H. is being held at a juvenile facility.
