GOSHEN, N.Y. — A New Jersey man has been sentenced to nine years in prison for his role in a 2023 armed robbery in Port Jervis, Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler announced Tuesday.
Shaheem Hill, 28, of Hamburg, New Jersey, was sentenced on April 16 in Orange County Court after previously pleading guilty to robbery in the second degree. His sentence includes five years of post-release supervision.
According to court records and statements, Hill and a co-defendant approached a victim at approximately 3:45 a.m. on December 30, 2023, on Ball Street in Port Jervis. The pair displayed what appeared to be handguns and forcibly took the victim’s laptop, jewelry, and wallet.
Investigators recovered the stolen property after executing a search warrant at the co-defendant’s residence in New Jersey. Surveillance video and cooperation between New York and New Jersey law enforcement played a role in identifying and arresting the suspects.
Hill admitted during his plea proceedings that he displayed a firearm and stole property by force. His co-defendant previously entered a guilty plea and is awaiting sentencing.
Regional cooperation leads to recovery and sentencing
District Attorney Hoovler credited the City of Port Jervis Police Department for leading the investigation and thanked the Newton Police Department and the Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office in New Jersey for their assistance.
“Violent criminals are emboldened by the illegal possession of dangerous firearms,” Hoovler said, noting the county’s commitment to prosecuting gun-related crimes.
