PARAMUS, N.J. – A 29-year-old Newark man was arrested Wednesday morning after allegedly pulling out an illegal handgun inside the Garden State Plaza Mall, police said. Officers identified the suspect as Charlie Williams, who was taken into custody without incident and later charged with possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a firearm.
According to Paramus police, Williams did not have a permit to carry the handgun, which he was found to own illegally. No shots were fired, and no injuries were reported during the encounter.
The incident marks the second weapons-related arrest at a New Jersey mall in the past 24 hours, both involving suspects carrying firearms without the required permits.
Williams was processed at Paramus Police Headquarters and is awaiting a court appearance in Bergen County.
