Newark thief swipes cash register and escapes in taxi cab

Thief rips cash register from Newark restaurant and flees in taxi with stolen loot

Newark, NJ – A brazen early-morning burglary at a Newark health food restaurant ended with a suspect wheeling away a stolen cash register in a shopping cart—then hopping into a taxi cab with the stolen goods.

The incident unfolded around 3:34 a.m. on November 11, when surveillance cameras captured the unidentified suspect pushing a shopping cart along the 1200 block of Raymond Boulevard. According to Newark’s Department of Public Safety, the man stopped in front of Fresh Coast, a health food eatery, and broke off the entrance lock box to gain access.

Once inside, the suspect attempted to pry open the cash register with a crowbar but was unsuccessful. He then ripped the register from the counter entirely and placed it into the cart. Surveillance footage also shows him taking several beverages from the cooler before fleeing.
