DANVILLE, VA — A spur-of-the-moment stop at a Danville convenience store turned into a life-changing moment for a Greensboro man who won $1 million on a Virginia Lottery scratcher ticket.
Edward Daye purchased the winning ticket for the Jackson game at Carter’s Quick Shoppe, located at 3103 West Main Street in Danville. After returning home, he scratched the ticket and scanned it using the Virginia Lottery’s mobile app — only to discover he had won the game’s top prize.
The Jackson scratcher offers prizes ranging from $20 to $1 million. This is the first of three $1 million top prizes to be claimed in the game. The odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 408,000, while the odds of winning any prize are 1 in 2.8.
The Virginia Lottery offers dozens of instant-win games like Jackson, as well as online ticket options for Powerball, Mega Millions, and other draw games. Players must be 18 or older and physically located in Virginia to participate.
All profits from the Virginia Lottery benefit K-12 public education. Danville received over $11 million in lottery funding last fiscal year. In Fiscal Year 2024, the Lottery generated more than $934 million for education across the Commonwealth.
