OCEAN CITY, MD – Investigators are asking for the public’s help identifying a woman accused of stealing and altering checks from residential mailboxes in the West Ocean City area, according to police.
The Ocean City Police Department said the investigation began November 7 after officers received several reports of fraudulent checks being cashed at banks across Worcester County. Detectives determined that the suspect or suspects were stealing outgoing mail, “washing” the checks to remove ink, and rewriting them for larger amounts before attempting to cash them.
Investigators released updated photos of a female suspect who was last seen around 10:15 a.m. on November 7 driving a silver SUV with an unknown Maryland license plate. Police said the woman has used a fraudulent Georgia driver’s license under the name “Kimberly Williams.”

Authorities are reminding residents to protect themselves from mail-related theft and fraud by depositing outgoing mail inside secure post office boxes or handing it directly to a postal carrier, promptly collecting incoming mail, and considering electronic bill payment options.
Anyone with information about the suspect or her vehicle is urged to contact the Ocean City Police Department.
