Ocean county prosecutor keeping an eye on "hateful online rhetoric" in jackson

JACKSON TOWNSHIP, NJ – The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office is keeping a close eye on what it is calling hateful rhetoric being published online about township officials and the growing Orthodox Jewish community.

In response to the recent increase in hateful rhetoric on social media, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer met with Jackson Township officials last week to discuss potential measures to curb this disturbing trend.

Attendees at the meeting included Ocean County Sheriff Michael Mastronardy, Dave Leonardis, Division of Criminal Justice Community Outreach and Training Coordinator, and Jackson Township Mayor Mike Reina.

The gathering underscored the united stance of Ocean County against hate. It emphasized that collaboration between local officials, law enforcement, and community leaders is essential to maintain a welcoming and tolerant environment.

As a clear message against the hate, the officials reminded the community that “Hate Has No Home in Ocean County!” and committed to working together to ensure that the values of respect and understanding prevail in their jurisdiction.

Some residents expressed their frustration with the presence of a new sign placed at Romeo’s Plaza by county officials, saying it is a message aimed at silencing their free speech and is seen as an intimidating move by the county.
