Off-duty NYPD probationary officer arrested for DWI in Queens early Saturday morning

QUEENS, NY – An off-duty NYPD probationary officer was arrested early Saturday morning on suspicion of driving while intoxicated in the 106th Precinct, authorities said.

Police identified the officer as Mahallah Sangandee, 24, who was taken into custody around 4:02 a.m. on October 19, 2025.

Arrest details

According to police, Sangandee was arrested after being stopped in the precinct’s jurisdiction, which covers parts of Ozone Park, Howard Beach, and South Richmond Hill.

She faces charges of Driving While Intoxicated, Driving While Ability Impaired, and Refusal to Take a Breathalyzer.

Department review pending

An NYPD spokesperson confirmed the arrest and said the officer’s conduct will be reviewed by the department’s Internal Affairs Bureau, as is standard procedure following an arrest of any member of the service.

Sangandee, who is currently in her probationary period with the department, could face disciplinary action pending the outcome of both the criminal case and internal review.

No injuries or property damage were reported in connection with the incident.
