Ohio man wins $2 million on $30 Royal Riches scratch-off ticket
IRONTON, OH – A southern Ohio man is $2 million richer after purchasing a $30 Royal Riches scratch-off ticket that delivered one of the game’s top prizes—$80,000 a year for 25 years.
The winner, identified only as J. from Ironton, bought the ticket on October 22 and couldn’t believe what he saw when he scratched it. After confirming the prize with a magnifying glass and a family member, he opted for the lump sum cash payout. Following state and federal taxes, he will receive $728,750.
J., who is known among friends and family for regularly playing Pick 3 and scratch-off tickets, said he often relies on a “top-secret” method for choosing numbers, involving family notes and patterns from past wins. Although he has won smaller prizes in the past, this is his first major jackpot.
The winning ticket was sold at Lucky Choice, a lottery retailer located at 577 W. Nationwide Blvd., Suite 200 in Columbus. The Ohio Lottery confirmed that as of October 28, four of the top Royal Riches prizes remain, along with ten second-tier prizes.
J. told lottery officials he plans to use some of his winnings to help his family, donate to his church, and purchase a new vehicle.
The Royal Riches game is one of several high-stakes scratch-offs offered by the Ohio Lottery. Since its inception in 1974, the Ohio Lottery has contributed over $34 billion to public education across the state.
