Ohio River Valley man wins $2 million on $30 scratch-off and takes home $728K cash prize

Ironton, OH – A man from Ironton struck it big with a $30 Royal Riches scratch-off ticket, winning a $2 million prize in a game that continues to offer some of the biggest payouts in the Ohio Lottery’s lineup.

The win came on October 22 when the man purchased the ticket from Lucky Choice, located at 577 W. Nationwide Blvd., Suite 200 in Columbus. The prize was structured as $80,000 a year for 25 years, but the winner opted for the lump-sum cash payout and will receive $728,750 after state and federal taxes.

According to lottery officials, the man is a regular player of Pick 3 and scratch-off games and uses a self-devised strategy based on a family-developed method involving notes and win tracking. While he’s claimed smaller prizes before, this marks his largest win to date.

After scratching the ticket, he reportedly double-checked the result with a magnifying glass and sent a photo to a family member for confirmation. He later confirmed the win through official lottery channels.

Plans for the winnings include helping family, supporting his church, and purchasing a new vehicle. As of October 28, there are still four top prizes and ten second-tier prizes remaining for the Royal Riches game.

The Ohio Lottery has contributed more than $34 billion to education since 1974, and Royal Riches remains one of its most popular high-stakes scratch-off games.
