State police investigating cause of collision

Virginia State Police said the crash remains under active investigation and have not yet released details about how the vehicles collided or the identities of those involved. Emergency responders worked for hours to clear debris and assist victims as traffic was diverted from the scene.

Motorists were urged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes as northbound lanes remained closed through the evening.

Traffic disruptions expected to continue

Officials have not provided a timeline for when the roadway will reopen. State police are expected to release additional information once next of kin are notified and the investigation progresses.
