SEAFORD, Del. — Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal crash that took place near Seaford on Monday night, leaving one man dead and three others injured.

The incident occurred on November 4 at approximately 8:16 p.m. when a Kia Optima, traveling eastbound on Ockels Road, approached a stop sign at the intersection with Sussex Highway. According to the preliminary investigation, the Kia proceeded from the stop sign to cross Sussex Highway, pulling into the path of a southbound Chevrolet Silverado.

The front of the Silverado struck the driver’s side rear of the Kia, authorities said. The impact caused significant damage to the Kia, resulting in serious injuries to its occupants. The driver of the Kia, a 33-year-old woman from Milford, was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. Her passenger, a 64-year-old man from Seaford, was also taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police are withholding his identity pending family notification.

The driver of the Silverado, a 37-year-old man, and his 10-year-old passenger, both from Laurel, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were also transported to an area hospital for treatment.

The crash forced the closure of Sussex Highway for approximately three hours as state police conducted an investigation and cleared the scene. The investigation into the circumstances of the crash is ongoing.
