By Shore News Network

WOODBRIDGE, VA – Detectives in Prince William County have arrested two 18-year-old men in connection with the fatal shooting of a Fredericksburg resident earlier this month.

On September 13, officers were called to the 13700 block of Telegraph Road around 7 p.m., where they found 35-year-old David Kapay Kallo suffering from a gunshot wound. Investigators said Kallo had been in a physical altercation with two suspects before being shot as he tried to walk away. The second victim was struck inadvertently during the exchange.

Detectives identified the suspects as Jordy Lopez Campos, 18, of Woodbridge, and David Omar Benitez Martinez, 18, of Dumfries. Campos was arrested on September 16 at a home on Culpeper Drive in Woodbridge. Benitez Martinez was taken into custody on September 19 at a residence on Hampstead Ridge Court in Dumfries. Narcotics and multiple firearms were recovered during the arrests.

Campos is charged with murder, aggravated malicious wounding, and two counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony. Benitez Martinez is charged with four counts of principal in the second degree in the commission of a felony. Both are being held without bond pending court dates.

Mikie Sherrill is officially an AFK congresswoman after skipping months of critical votes

by Shore News Network September 21, 2025
By Shore News Network

Parsippany, NJ – Rep. Mikie Sherrill is facing sharp criticism from Republican challenger Jack Ciattarelli, who blasted the congresswoman for missing votes, avoiding debates, and cancelling appearances while collecting a taxpayer-funded salary.

In a statement posted to social media, Ciattarelli accused Sherrill of being “missing in action,” saying she has skipped more than half her congressional votes this year, backed out of veterans’ events, and repeatedly declined press interviews.

According to Congress.gov, from July 21st to September 17th, Sherrill skipped every House vote. It was only after being called out by Ciattarelli on the campaign trail that Sherrill returned to D.C. to vote on bills last week, after returning from her California donor lobbying trip.

“Mikie is MIA,” Ciattarelli wrote. “Cancelling public appearances, dodging the press, refusing debates, and skipping more than half her congressional votes… all while cashing the taxpayer paycheck.”

The former GOP gubernatorial nominee also pressed Sherrill to confirm her attendance at the next debate, suggesting she may be avoiding a head-to-head showdown.

The criticism comes as Sherrill traveled to California last week for high-dollar fundraisers with Democratic donors, including contributors who previously supported the unsuccessful 2024 presidential campaign of Kamala Harris.

Ciattarelli argues Sherrill’s absence from the district reflects a disconnect with voters.

  • Sherrill recently traveled to California for fundraising events with major Democratic donors.
  • GOP critics say her absence raises questions about her commitment to New Jersey constituents.

Democrat Lobbyist, Ocean County GOP Chairman George Gilmore’s Anti-Ciattarelli Posts Scrubbed from Facebook

by Shore News Network September 21, 2025
By Shore News Network

Toms River, NJ – A series of anti-Jack Ciattarelli posts and advertisements that appeared on the Ocean County GOP’s official Facebook page have been quietly removed after drawing criticism for targeting the party’s nominee.

Ocean County GOP Chairman George Gilmore, a convicted federal felon and tax cheat who backed Spadea during the primary, orchestrated a disasterous and slanderous political attack campaign against Ciattarelli

The dozen or so anti-Ciattarelli posts have been prominently displayed on the organization’s official Facebook page, posted by the official account associated with that page.

The messages, which harshly attacked Ciattarelli in the wake of Bill Spadea’s primary defeat in June, were left on the page for months before being taken down this week, when Shore News Network asked the organization why it was stil featuring attacks on Ciattarelli on its Facebook page.

Gilmore, who was previously convicted on federal tax charges, has long been accused of withholding full support for Ciattarelli. He also works for Democratic lobbyist Philip Norcross of Optimus Partners, whose brother George Norcross is a powerful South Jersey Democratic figure. Gilmore has a history of crossing party lines, including hosting a fundraiser earlier this year for former Democratic Gov. James McGreevey. Gilmore has also reportedly met in secret with Governor Phil Murphy in Red Bank on several occasions to discuss his plans.

Gilmore is known to put personal wealth and financial arrangements ahead of party politics, even though is the Republican party chairman for Ocean County.

Ad: Save every day with Amazon Deals: Check out today's daily deals on Amazon.

Some Republican insiders suspect Gilmore may be positioning himself for future races, noting that he earned nearly one hundred thousand dollars consulting for Spadea’s failed campaign. Critics have accused him of undermining Ciattarelli from behind the scenes, while Democrats have seized on the GOP infighting to weaken the nominee.

When asked about the posts, Ocean County GOP executive director Jennifer Bacchione denied responsibility.

“I didn’t post that,” Bacchione told Shore News Network, adding that she immediately ordered the removal of the attacks. “The primary is over. Jack won. End of story. Republicans support Republicans.”

Mark Vasquez, vice president of the Brick Township Republican Club, was identified as the author of the anti-Ciattarelli content that was shared on the county GOP’s page, by the official account. Bacchione did not say whether it was Vasquez or Gilmore who published the anti-Ciattarelli messages on the county’s Facebook pages.

Vasquez and the Brick GOP, have been out of power in that community since the days of rampant political corruption, nepotism, cronyism, tax increases, and controversial red light cameras allowed Democrats to run the local municipality over a decade ago.

Key Points

  • Anti-Ciattarelli posts on Ocean County GOP Facebook page were removed after criticism.
  • Chairman George Gilmore, who backed Bill Spadea, has been accused of withholding full support for Ciattarelli.
  • GOP officials confirmed Brick Township Republican Club VP Mark Vasquez authored the posts.

Do you have adult ADHD? Here’s how to recognize the signs

by Lifestyle and Family September 20, 2025
By Lifestyle and Family

Newark, NJ – Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, widely associated with children, also affects millions of adults — often undiagnosed. The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) says symptoms that begin in childhood can continue into adulthood, disrupting work, relationships, and daily life.

Adults with ADHD typically show patterns of inattention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity. They may struggle to stay organized, follow instructions, manage time, or finish projects. Restlessness, multitasking, and risk-taking behaviors are also common. Symptoms must be present in more than one setting — such as at work and at home — and last at least six months to qualify for diagnosis.

Unlike in children, where six symptoms are required, adults need to show five or more signs of either inattention or hyperactivity-impulsivity. Diagnosis often involves clinical interviews, checklists, psychological testing, and reports from family or childhood records to confirm symptoms began before age 12.

Many people are not diagnosed until later in life, particularly women, whose symptoms were often overlooked in childhood. Experts say effective treatment can ease daily struggles and improve quality of life.

Treatment options for adults include medication, cognitive behavioral therapy, and coaching to build organizational skills. Lifestyle changes, such as exercise, can also help. In some cases, workplace accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) are available.

Support is widely accessible. The Attention Deficit Disorder Association and Children and Adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (CHADD) provide resources and support groups. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) also offers guidance on symptoms and treatment.

Experts stress it is never too late to seek a diagnosis. Recognizing ADHD in adulthood can open the door to strategies and treatments that make everyday life more manageable.

Key Points

  • ADHD often continues into adulthood, affecting work, relationships, and daily functioning.
  • Diagnosis requires symptoms beginning before age 12, with adults showing at least five signs of inattention or hyperactivity.
  • Treatment includes medication, therapy, coaching, and lifestyle changes, with resources available nationwide.

Jack Ciattarelli slams Mikie Sherrill, Dems for Pushing EV Mandate as Energy Bills Triple in New Jersey

by Shore News Network September 20, 2025
By Shore News Network

Trenton, NJ – Republican candidate Jack Ciattarelli took aim at New Jersey’s electric vehicle mandate this week, warning that the state’s power grid and already-high utility bills cannot sustain the policy.

In a post Friday, Ciattarelli argued that forcing residents into electric cars will push electricity demand beyond what the grid can handle. He cited energy experts who have raised concerns about the strain, noting that more demand could mean higher costs for households.

Here’s the problem with Trenton’s electric car mandate:

They’re forcing people to buy EVs while utility bills are already through the roof.
More EVs = more demand = higher bills for everyone.

Our grid can’t handle it. Energy experts are warning us.

But Mikie has doubled down… pic.twitter.com/eIeTFkv4zI

— Jack Ciattarelli (@Jack4NJ) September 19, 2025

“Our grid can’t handle it,” Ciattarelli said. “Energy experts are warning us.” He criticized Rep. Mikie Sherrill, claiming she defended the policy even while acknowledging the high price tag, and said government should not impose mandates that “make life more expensive for working families.”

New Jersey has adopted California’s Advanced Clean Cars II rule, which requires a rising share of zero-emission vehicle sales beginning in 2027, with a goal of 100 percent of new car sales being electric by 2035.

Supporters argue the shift is critical to reducing emissions and preparing for a clean energy future. Opponents counter that the infrastructure is not ready, and that pushing mandates could worsen affordability issues at a time when residents face higher utility costs.

The debate comes as electricity prices and grid capacity remain front-and-center issues in Trenton.

Key Points

  • Jack Ciattarelli criticized New Jersey’s EV mandate, saying it will raise bills and overwhelm the grid.
  • The mandate follows California’s Advanced Clean Cars II plan, requiring all new cars sold to be zero-emission by 2035.
  • Supporters call the policy necessary for clean energy goals, while critics warn of affordability and infrastructure challenges.

Ex-teachers union official charged in Sacramento TV station shooting after Kimmel suspension

by Shore News Network September 20, 2025
By Shore News Network

Sacramento, Calif. – The man accused of opening fire on the ABC affiliate in Sacramento following the suspension of late-night host Jimmy Kimmel has been identified as 64-year-old Anibal Hernandez-Santana, a former legislative director for the California Federation of Teachers.

Hernandez-Santana was arrested on multiple felony counts, including assault with a deadly weapon, negligent discharge of a firearm, and shooting into an occupied building, according to officials. No injuries were reported in the attack.

An X account appearing to belong to Hernandez-Santana, reviewed by Variety, contained numerous political posts criticizing former President Donald Trump and federal agencies. In one message posted in July, the account railed against what it called an “authoritarian oligarchy,” listing media companies, federal law enforcement, and the Supreme Court while declaring that Americans would “have to ‘fight like hell.’”

The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, though the incident followed national headlines about Kimmel’s suspension. Investigators are working to determine whether Hernandez-Santana’s political activity online is connected to the attack.

Hernandez-Santana is being held in custody pending his arraignment.

Key Points

  • Anibal Hernandez-Santana, 64, was identified as the suspect in a shooting at Sacramento’s ABC affiliate.
  • The former teachers union official faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon and firing into an occupied building.

Young Monmouth Residents Disgusted, Shocked Over Mikie Sherrill’s Attack on Murdered Man

by Shore News Network September 20, 2025
By Shore News Network

Monmouth County, NJ – The Monmouth County Young Republicans released a lengthy statement denouncing Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill after her response to the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, accusing her of “verbally trashing” a murder victim and using the tragedy for political gain.

In their release, the group said they were “disgusted” by Sherrill’s description of Kirk as holding “vile dissenting views” and “racist, anti-American views,” calling the comments “utterly deplorable.” They emphasized that Kirk, described as a father and husband, was killed less than a week before her remarks. “This is how an elected representative chooses to reflect on it,” the statement read.

The Young Republicans further criticized Sherrill for what they said was a contradiction between her rhetoric and her actions. While condemning Kirk’s views, she also voted in favor of a resolution honoring him in the House of Representatives. “The even sadder part is that she voted ‘yes’ for the resolution in question, which under her logic, means she voted in the affirmative to honor a ‘racist,’ ‘anti-American,’ who had ‘vile dissenting views,’” the statement said.

The group questioned Sherrill’s claims of moderation, arguing her remarks showed no interest in lowering political tensions. “Congresswoman Sherrill wants to lead 9.5 million New Jerseyans, what in this statement tells you she is a leader or unifier?” they asked.

They also raised doubts about her candidacy for governor, stating: “We struggle to decide which is worse, the thought that a candidate for Governor truly believes it is ok to verbally trash a husband murdered in front of millions of Americans less than a week after he was killed or the thought that she decided it was politically expedient and was willing to stoop to that level for political benefit.”

“Charlie Kirk was advocating for a Christian nationalist government and to roll back the rights of women and Black people — this flies in the face of every value I hold dear and that I fight for. But the Constitution protects free speech, even for those I vehemently oppose.

“Meanwhile, President Trump has and continues to define hypocrisy at every turn. On one hand, he denounced Kirk’s politically motivated killing, while on the other hand, is instigating a witch hunt worthy of Joseph McCarthy to shut down the free speech rights of anyone who disagrees with Kirk’s racist, anti-American views,” Sherrill said from her official office as a congresswoman.

The statement concluded by contrasting Sherrill with Kirk, portraying him as a principled figure while accusing her of shifting positions for convenience. “The difference between Charlie Kirk and Mikie Sherrill is Charlie Kirk held convictions that were core to who he was while Mikie Sherrill will always cave to what she thinks is beneficial at that current moment,” they wrote.

The Monmouth County Young Republicans said they take comfort in believing that Kirk’s influence on millions of Americans will outlast Sherrill’s political reach. “Do you know anyone who has ever uttered the words ‘Mikie Sherrill inspired me to get involved in making our nation better?’ Of course not,” the group stated.

Key Points

  • Monmouth County Young Republicans condemned Rep. Mikie Sherrill’s remarks about Charlie Kirk following his assassination.
  • The group accused Sherrill of hypocrisy for criticizing Kirk’s views while voting to honor him in Congress.
  • The statement questioned her leadership and suggested her remarks were politically motivated.

The statement underscored how Kirk’s killing has quickly become a flashpoint in New Jersey’s political battles.

Bed-Stuy man sentenced to 25 years for fatal ambush stabbing at Tompkins Houses

by Shore News Network September 20, 2025
By Shore News Network

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – A Bedford-Stuyvesant man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for the deadly stabbing of a neighbor in an attack prosecutors described as a calculated ambush inside the Tompkins Houses.

Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced Thursday that Marquis Shiloh, 35, was sentenced by Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Donald Leo to 25 years behind bars and five years of post-release supervision. A jury convicted him of first-degree manslaughter in July.

Prosecutors said the attack happened on July 12, 2023, when 26-year-old Stephon Sinclair took the elevator down to the lobby of 760 Park Avenue. Shiloh was waiting, and when Sinclair stepped out, Shiloh punched him. As Sinclair tried to retreat from the building, Shiloh and a co-defendant pursued him outside. Shiloh pulled a knife and stabbed Sinclair twice in the legs, severing an artery and vein.

Sinclair collapsed nearby and was rushed to Kings County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Shiloh fled the scene but was arrested on August 2, 2023, following an NYPD investigation led by the 79th Precinct and Brooklyn North Homicide Squad.

The co-defendant, who assisted Shiloh by striking Sinclair during the assault, pleaded guilty in July to third-degree assault. She was sentenced in August to a conditional discharge.

By Shore News Network

BRONX, N.Y. – A Bronx man has been indicted on assault and reckless endangerment charges after prosecutors say he piloted a charter boat without a license while drinking, leading to a fiery explosion that forced more than 20 passengers to leap into Long Island Sound.

Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark announced Friday that Joshua Brito, 33, of East 203rd Street, was arraigned on multiple charges, including first-degree assault, vehicular assault, reckless endangerment, and operating a vessel under the influence of alcohol. He is due back in court October 29.

According to the investigation, on June 7 Brito operated a 36-foot charter boat for hire, collecting more than $3,000 from 22 passengers celebrating a family birthday. The trip began at the World’s Fair Marina in Queens and headed north through the Long Island Sound.

Off the coast of Hart Island and City Island, the boat suddenly exploded and caught fire. All passengers were forced into the water. A woman nearly drowned before being pulled to safety by FDNY marine units, who performed CPR at the scene. A man suffered severe burns after falling into the flames and later required skin grafts.

Prosecutors said Brito, who did not have a captain’s license, was seen drinking alongside passengers during the voyage.

Clark credited the work of FDNY, NYPD, U.S. Coast Guard, and NYC Parks Department crews for saving lives during the emergency.

Concerns Grow Over Maryland Governor’s Alarming Audits

by Shore News Network September 20, 2025
By Shore News Network

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Maryland Senate Republican leaders are demanding accountability from Gov. Wes Moore after a series of recent state audits revealed what they called “colossal failures” within multiple agencies.

Senate Minority Leader Steve Hershey and Minority Whip Justin Ready issued a joint statement Thursday, saying the findings show a disturbing lack of oversight and leadership that puts taxpayer dollars and vulnerable residents at risk.

“These are not isolated mistakes – they are colossal failures that point to a Governor who either doesn’t know what’s happening in his own agencies, or worse, doesn’t care to find out,” Hershey said. He added that Moore should focus less on national politics and more on ensuring state agencies run efficiently.

Ready emphasized that Marylanders must trust their government to safeguard children and vulnerable populations. “This is not about partisanship – this is about whether the Moore Administration is doing its job for the people of Maryland. Right now, the answer is clearly no,” he said.

Republican leaders said they are considering legislative measures to strengthen oversight of state agencies. They also warned Democrats against seeking additional taxpayer dollars until the Moore administration demonstrates that it can manage existing funds responsibly.

Key Points

  • Maryland Senate Republicans criticized Gov. Wes Moore after multiple audits flagged agency mismanagement.
  • GOP leaders Steve Hershey and Justin Ready said the audits showed failures in oversight and protection of vulnerable populations.
  • Republicans vowed to pursue legislation to strengthen oversight before approving further taxpayer spending.

With a budget deficit looming, GOP leaders say Maryland can’t afford more mistakes.

Did Mikie Sherrill Sink Her Campaign With Hateful Smear of Charlie Kirk, Assassinated by Left-Wing Radical

by Shore News Network September 20, 2025
By Shore News Network

Mikie Sherrill under fire for remarks on slain conservative activist

Newark, NJ – Rep. Mikie Sherrill is facing intense backlash after issuing a statement in which she described assassinated conservative commentator Charlie Kirk as a “racist” and “bigot,” even as she condemned the political violence that claimed his life when he was assassinated by a radicalized left-wing man from Utah, who was in an affair with a trans man.

“I had enough of his hatred,” Tyler Robinson wrote before murdering Kirk. “Some hate can’t be negotiated out.”

Kirk was shot in the neck with a high-powered rifle that was watched by tens of millions of people. It was rhetoric like Sherrill’s that drove the shooter to kill him.

Sherrill’s attempt to appease compassionate New Jerseyans, while catering to her far-left radical base fell short.

In her remarks, Sherrill said Kirk’s advocacy for what she called a “Christian nationalist government” and efforts to “roll back the rights of women and Black people” were fundamentally at odds with her values. While acknowledging that the Constitution protects free speech, she criticized former President Donald Trump for what she described as hypocrisy in both denouncing Kirk’s killing and attempting to silence critics of Kirk’s views.

“Charlie Kirk’s murder was horrific, and it’s up to all of us to stand against political violence,” Sherrill stated. “In these times, I will continue to condemn political violence, racism, attacks on women, and the hypocrisy coming from Trump and his acolytes.”

Her comments sparked swift condemnation from Republicans, including New Jersey gubernatorial candidate Jack Ciattarelli, who blasted Sherrill for what he called a reversal on her earlier vote to honor Kirk’s life in Congress.

“Mikie Sherrill’s hypocrisy knows no bounds,” Ciattarelli wrote on social media. “After voting ‘YES’ on a resolution honoring Charlie Kirk’s life and condemning his violent death, Mikie reversed course and sided with the extremists in her own party by putting out a statement attacking a fellow American, a son, a husband, and a father who was assassinated for speaking his mind. It’s inexcusable and disqualifying.”

The controversy threatens to overshadow Sherrill’s campaign, with opponents framing her remarks as politically damaging and disrespectful to Kirk’s supporters. Democrats, meanwhile, have largely stayed quiet on the fallout, leaving Sherrill to defend her position as she navigates the escalating political storm.

Mikie Sherrill was once a Navy pilot.

Key Points

  • Rep. Mikie Sherrill condemned Charlie Kirk’s assassination but called him a racist and bigot in her statement.
  • GOP candidate Jack Ciattarelli accused her of hypocrisy after she previously voted to honor Kirk’s life.
  • The remarks have ignited a political firestorm that could shake Sherrill’s campaign.

In New Jersey politics, one statement may have changed the trajectory of an entire campaign.

Broke New Jersey Voter Pens Viral Letter to Jack Ciattarelli About Election

by Shore News Network September 20, 2025
By Shore News Network

Trenton, NJ – A handwritten note left on a campaign mailer has become a symbol in New Jersey’s heated governor’s race after GOP candidate Jack Ciattarelli shared it online, highlighting voter frustration with the state’s high property taxes.

Notes like this remind me why I’m running: Eight years of failed policies and more than 25 years of one-party rule have made New Jersey completely unaffordable for too many.

— Jack Ciattarelli (@Jack4NJ) September 19, 2025

The note, written on a pink sticky pad and addressed to “Jack,” tells Ciattarelli the writer has “no money to donate” due to “high property taxes” under Gov. Phil Murphy and Democrats. The voter pledged, however, to support Ciattarelli at the ballot box in November.

“Notes like this remind me why I’m running,” Ciattarelli posted on X, formerly Twitter. “Eight years of failed policies and more than 25 years of one-party rule have made New Jersey completely unaffordable for too many.”

Ciattarelli, who lost to Murphy in 2021, has centered his campaign on lowering property taxes and making the state more affordable for families and retirees. New Jersey consistently ranks among the states with the highest property tax burdens, a recurring flashpoint in state politics.

Broke New Jersey Voter Pens Viral Letter to Jack Ciattarelli About Election

The personal letter underscores a challenge for Democrats ahead of the November election, as Republicans aim to channel voter anger over affordability into a broader push to unseat Murphy’s party from long-standing control of state government.

Key Points

  • A New Jersey voter’s note said high property taxes left her unable to donate but promised to vote for GOP candidate Jack Ciattarelli.
  • Ciattarelli shared the note online, calling it proof of “failed policies” under Democratic leadership.
  • Property taxes remain one of the most contentious issues in New Jersey’s gubernatorial race.

In New Jersey politics, even a sticky note can pack a punch.

New Jersey Punishes Lyft for $19.5 Million Over Independent Contractor Driver Status

by Shore News Network September 20, 2025
By Shore News Network

Trenton, NJ – Lyft has agreed to pay nearly $19.5 million to New Jersey after state officials determined the ride-sharing company wrongly classified more than 100,000 drivers as independent contractors, depriving them of unemployment insurance, disability coverage, and other safety-net benefits.

The New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development (NJDOL) and the Office of the Attorney General announced Thursday that the settlement follows a years-long audit covering 2014 through 2017. The review found Lyft failed to make mandatory contributions to state benefit funds, leading to a $10.8 million assessment in unpaid contributions and another $8.5 million in penalties and interest.

The case escalated when drivers filed for unemployment and disability benefits, exposing gaps in Lyft’s compliance. Lyft initially contested the findings, even paying a portion of the assessed contributions to stop interest from accruing, but ultimately dropped its legal challenge last month and paid the remaining $8.5 million.

“Misclassification imposes a financial toll on both good actor employers and misclassified workers, who lose critical rights such as minimum wage, overtime pay, workers’ compensation coverage, unemployment insurance, earned sick leave, family leave, and more,” said Labor Commissioner Robert Asaro-Angelo.

Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin added, “We will not allow businesses to exploit workers by misclassifying them, stripping employees of essential benefits and avoiding their responsibility to support programs that protect our workforce.”

All recovered contributions will be returned to unemployment, disability, family leave, and workforce development trust funds. Officials said New Jersey’s strict enforcement has helped stabilize the state’s unemployment insurance trust fund, now exceeding $3 billion, and has lowered contribution rates for employers.

The case was resolved by attorneys in the Division of Law’s Labor Enforcement Section and NJDOL’s Employer Accounts team.

Key Points

  • Lyft paid $19.4 million to New Jersey after an audit found widespread driver misclassification between 2014 and 2017.
  • The settlement includes $10.8 million in unpaid contributions plus $8.5 million in penalties and interest.
  • State officials said the funds will strengthen unemployment and disability trust programs and protect workers’ rights.
