CUMBERLAND, MD – A West Virginia man is behind bars after police said he robbed a woman at gunpoint during a daylight incident on Columbia Street earlier this week.
Officers with the Cumberland Police Department arrested 35-year-old Michael Lynn Mumaw of Parkersburg on Tuesday following an investigation that began a day earlier.
The case stems from a report received around 2:48 p.m. Monday, when police were called to the 400 block of Columbia Street for an armed robbery.
Victim reports gunpoint robbery
According to investigators, the victim told officers that Mumaw brandished a firearm and demanded her property. Detectives developed probable cause and later filed charges against him through the District Court of Allegany County.
Police served the warrant the following day, taking Mumaw into custody without incident.
Suspect held without bond
After a hearing before a District Court Commissioner, Mumaw was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center without bond. He faces multiple charges including armed robbery, first- and second-degree assault, and theft of property valued between $100 and $1,500.
Authorities have not released details about the weapon used or what was stolen in the robbery.
