GREENVILLE, Del. — A Pennsylvania man is facing vehicular assault and DUI charges following a multi-vehicle crash that left three people injured, including one seriously, Delaware State Police announced Thursday.

The crash occurred on Wednesday afternoon at approximately 1:27 p.m. at the intersection of Kennett Pike and Old Kennett Road. Investigators determined that a green 2000 Ford F-150, driven by 58-year-old Frank Yacona of Boothwyn, Pennsylvania, was traveling southbound on Kennett Pike when it struck a black 2016 Nissan Frontier stopped at a red light.

The F-150 then continued forward, colliding with a white 2017 Nissan Rogue on Old Kennett Road, causing the Rogue to roll over. The 74-year-old driver of the Rogue was hospitalized with serious injuries. The 70-year-old passenger of the Rogue and the 38-year-old driver of the Frontier sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were also transported to an area hospital.

Troopers observed signs of impairment when they made contact with Yacona at the scene. After conducting field sobriety tests, he was taken into custody without incident and transported to Troop 1, police said.

Yacona was charged with vehicular assault, driving under the influence, and other related offenses. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $4,002 secured bond.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the crash and its circumstances.
