Pittsburgh police arrest 18-year-old in two October shootings

Pittsburgh, PA – An 18-year-old man wanted in connection with two separate non-fatal shootings last fall was taken into custody February 16 following a coordinated effort involving multiple local and federal law enforcement units.

The arrest of Marcell Fields was carried out by detectives from the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police Fugitive Apprehension Unit and the U.S. Marshals Service Western Pennsylvania Fugitive Task Force. Authorities said the operation also included the Violent Crime Division, SWAT, the Intelligence Unit, the PBP Drone Unit, and Zone 5 patrol and plainclothes detectives.

Fields had been sought in connection with a shooting that occurred October 25 in the 7200 block of Frankstown Avenue in Pittsburgh. He was also wanted by Port Authority of Allegheny County Police for a separate shooting on October 26 at the Wilkinsburg Park and Ride Bus Station.

Coordinated task force operation leads to arrest

According to Pittsburgh Police, the multi-agency operation was part of an ongoing effort to apprehend individuals wanted in violent crime cases across the city and surrounding communities.

Authorities allege that Fields was involved in both October incidents, each of which resulted in non-fatal injuries. Details about the victims’ conditions were not released in the announcement.

Fields, identified by investigators as 18-year-old Marcell Fields, now faces charges from two separate law enforcement agencies stemming from the incidents in Pittsburgh and Wilkinsburg.

Pittsburgh Police have charged Fields with aggravated assault, firearms not to be carried without a license, possession of a firearm by a minor at the time of the alleged offense, and recklessly endangering another person.

In the Wilkinsburg case, Port Authority Police charged Fields with criminal attempt homicide, aggravated assault, criminal conspiracy, firearms not to be carried without a license, possession of a firearm by a minor, and recklessly endangering another person.

Authorities did not release additional details regarding the circumstances of the shootings or whether other suspects are being sought. Court information regarding Fields’ arraignment or bond status was not immediately available.
