LAKEWOOD, N.J. – A man accused in a shots fired incident at the High Point Apartment Complex was arrested Wednesday evening after fleeing police in a pursuit that ended with a crash and foot chase, according to the Lakewood Police Department.

Officers responded to reports of gunfire around 5 p.m. in the area of the High Point Apartment Complex. Investigators said officers from the Toms River Police Department soon located the suspect vehicle as it left the area and attempted a traffic stop.

Pursuit ended with crash and foot chase

Authorities said the driver refused to stop, leading officers from the Lakewood Police Department and Toms River on a brief pursuit before crashing into another vehicle. The uninvolved driver suffered injuries in the collision and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

After the crash, investigators said the suspect ran from the scene on foot but was quickly taken into custody near Chestnut Street and Vine Avenue by responding officers.

Authorities identified the suspect as 29-year-old Timothy Moore-Jackson of Howell. He was charged with eluding, unlawful possession of a handgun, certain persons not to possess a firearm, aggravated assault, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, and possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute.

Multi-agency investigation continues

Moore-Jackson was lodged in the Ocean County Jail pending court proceedings.

“This incident demonstrates the effectiveness of strong partnerships between law enforcement agencies,” Lakewood Police Chief Gregory Meyer said. “The coordinated efforts of every officer and investigator involved led to the quick apprehension of the suspect while helping to protect the public from further harm. I want to thank all of our partner agencies for their efforts throughout this investigation.”
