Powerball group win nets 25 coworkers over $36K in Columbus
Columbus, OH – A group of 25 people who joined forces to purchase a single $20 Powerball ticket are sharing a $50,004 prize after hitting four numbers and the Powerball in the December 22 drawing.
The group, based in the Columbus area, matched numbers 3-18-36-41-54 and the red Powerball 7, a combination worth $50,000. They also matched one additional number and the Powerball on the same ticket for an extra $4, bringing their total win to $50,004. After 26.75 percent in federal and state taxes, the group will split $36,627.93—about $1,465 per person.
The winning ticket was sold at GetGo #3511 on Fishinger Road in Upper Arlington. The group did not opt for the Power Play multiplier, which would have increased non-jackpot winnings for an additional $1 per play.
According to the Ohio Lottery, the odds of winning this $50,000 prize are 1 in 913,129. The agency, which has contributed more than $34 billion to education since 1974, continues to encourage responsible play across the state.
