Prank pizza order turns heartwarming as fooled Jersey shop feeds community first responders

TOMS RIVER, NJ – A family-owned pizzeria turned an unfortunate prank into a community celebration Sunday after a large fake delivery order left them with stacks of fresh pies and a choice — waste them or share them. They chose to give back.

STR Pizza, located on Dover Road in South Toms River, posted on Facebook that someone had placed a massive delivery order only to cancel at the last minute as a prank. Instead of letting the pizzas go cold, the owners quickly took to social media, asking residents who could use a hot meal — from police and firefighters to EMS workers and local charities.

Within minutes, comments and messages poured in. The post went viral across the community, and all the pizzas were donated by the end of the day. The restaurant later followed up, thanking supporters for helping turn a bad situation into something positive.

Known for its laid-back vibe and more than two dozen specialty pizzas on display daily, STR Pizza has become a popular neighborhood hub since opening. Friday’s quick act of generosity only strengthened that reputation.

“We’d much rather turn a bad situation into something good,” the owners wrote. “Thanks for always supporting local.”
